Video chat help

Get your camera and microphone working.

Start with your own camera preview. If it is blank, check permissions and devices. If you can see yourself, move on to the connection or sound steps below.

18+ only. Free text and video chat. Country and gender filters require Premium.

If your own camera preview is missing

  1. Allow both camera and microphone. Open video chat and choose Start. Complete the joining steps if asked, then allow both devices when your browser prompts you. Video chat needs both to start; you can mute yourself afterward.
  2. Check the permission for minggly.com. If you previously chose Block, open the site's controls beside the address bar and look for camera and microphone permissions. The wording varies by browser. Change blocked permissions to allow access, reload Minggly, then start again. Google has specific steps for Chrome.
  3. Check your computer or phone's privacy settings. Make sure the browser itself is allowed to use the camera and microphone. On Windows, Microsoft's camera and microphone permission guide shows where to look.
  4. Close other apps using the device. Leave any other video call, close spare camera tabs and check a physical camera shutter. Reconnect an external webcam or microphone if needed.

Open Settings → Devices to see which camera and microphone are connected, turn the camera back on or unmute the microphone. On mobile, tap the small arrow at the bottom right to reveal the toolbar, then choose Settings.

If the wrong webcam or microphone is in use, choose the one you want in your browser or device settings. Stop the chat and start again so Minggly can use that choice.

If your camera works but you cannot see a stranger

“Looking for someone” means your camera is ready and you are waiting for a match. You do not need to allow camera access again. Keep waiting, or choose Stop and broaden your matching preferences. A specific country or gender leaves fewer people you can meet.

“Connecting” means Minggly is setting up your call. If an error appears, stop and try again. If it keeps happening, check that other sites load normally and try another network you are allowed to use. School or workplace networks sometimes block video calls.

If you used Hide stranger video, tap the same control to show it again. If Minggly covers a video during a safety check, follow the message on screen. You can still stop or report the conversation.

If one of you cannot hear the other

If they cannot hear you: make sure your microphone is unmuted in Minggly and check any mute switch on your headset. In your phone or computer's sound settings, check that the right microphone is selected and that its input volume is turned up.

If you cannot hear them: open Settings → General → Stranger volume and check that it is not muted. Then check your phone or computer's volume and audio output. Sound may still be going to Bluetooth headphones you are no longer wearing.

A working camera does not confirm that the microphone works. Ask the other person to check their controls too. Headphones can also reduce the echo caused by a microphone picking up speaker audio.

Do you need to allow access after every chat?

Usually, no. After you choose Stop, Minggly turns off your camera and microphone. Choose Start again when you want another conversation. If your browser has kept the permission, you should not need to grant it again.

You may see another permission prompt if you chose one-time access, used private browsing, cleared site data or changed a permission. The browser decides how long to keep access. Seeing Start again does not mean that permission has been lost.
