Minggly’s random text chat is a separate mode with no camera or microphone needed. It is a useful reason to try a Monkey alternative even if you also enjoy video.
Monkey has text features too. Its text-chat FAQ says its in-session chat panel requires enabled cameras, although the same page also promotes starting with text before video. That conflicting guidance is worth checking in the version you use. Monkey’s app also advertises direct messages; those are a different feature from a separate random text mode.

Minggly suits the moment when you want to meet someone and see where the conversation goes, without creating a public profile. Choose Anonymous if you do not want to connect Google. That choice concerns sign-in; you still decide what personal details to share in the chat.
If you use Monkey to keep in touch with friends or chat as a pair, switching would give up features you may enjoy. Minggly does not transfer those connections or recreate that social experience. Minggly’s interests and chat-language choice are free. Add something you would enjoy talking about, such as photography or a favorite game, to give the conversation a possible starting point. Shared interests are preferred when possible, rather than guaranteed. For language practice, choose the chat language instead of assuming a country tells you which language someone speaks.
